Celebrating Portsmouth's people's choice award nominees

The Teach Portsmouth Awards is one way we recognise school and college staff who go above and beyond the call of duty.

The people's choice award gives Portsmouth a voice by enabling the community to nominate someone who has supported their children and young people. This year, over 100 nominations were received, breaking an all-time record!

To celebrate this achievement, we are hosting a special people's choice award event, hosted by the Lord Mayor of Portsmouth, Councillor Jason Fazackarley and Mike Stoneman, deputy director, education at Portsmouth City Council.

We are inviting the people's choice award nominees to Boathouse 4 on Thursday 24 April from 4pm - 5:30pm to enjoy afternoon tea and be presented with a certificate of achievement.

About the venue

Boathouse 4's sawtooth roof is instantly recognisable within the landscape of Portsmouth Harbour. The building has been repurposed for the 21st century with exhibition space and a restaurant.

The restaurant will host up to 110 people as part of a celebratory event. There will be an opportunity to network and enjoy afternoon tea in comfortable surroundings.

The venue is based within Portsmouth Historic Dockyard and has a long history as a centre for education.

About the format

Attendees will be welcomed by the Lord Mayor of Portsmouth, Councillor Jason Fazackarley and Mike Stoneman, deputy director, education at Portsmouth City Council.

The afternoon tea buffet and assorted refreshments will be available as soon as guests arrive with an opportunity to network.

Afterwards, a series of speeches will follow as each nominee, in order of school, will be called up to receive their certificate of achievement.

Once everyone has received their certificate, a group photo will be taken to mark the occasion.

What is the Teach Portsmouth Awards?

The Teach Portsmouth Awards celebrate the achievements of Portsmouth's school and college staff across 12 award categories. The event will take place at Portsmouth Guildhall on Thursday 12 June from 6pm - 9pm.

The people's choice award is the only category that allows the public to nominate in. The Teach Portsmouth Awards relies on the goodwill of local organisations through sponsorship to make the event possible.

Can I nominate someone for the people's choice award?

Nominations have now closed for the people's choice award. Nominations opened in December last year for three weeks. Over 100 nominations were received by members of the local community. This included parents/carers and school staff who have gone above and beyond the call of duty.

Can I attend the people's choice award celebration event?

The event is reserved for those who have been nominated for a people's choice award. The event is capped at 110 people. A waiting list for tickets will be operated but prioritised for school colleagues linked to the person nominated. This will be done on a first come, first served basis.

How do I reserve a ticket on the waiting list?

If you are a school colleague who works with someone who has been nominated, please speak to the individual who has been nominated for an award in the first instance. If they can notify us, we will then add your details to the waiting list. We are unable to reserve tickets for anyone who doesn't follow this process.

How do I secure a ticket if I have been nominated for the award?

The Teach Portsmouth team will be contacting those who have been nominated in the coming weeks. This email will contain information about the event. However, attending the event will be dependent on consent being given by the nominee to be featured in the awards. Once consent is given, you will receive an official invite to attend the event.

What happens now?
